1/30/2017 0 Comments Praying with ArtAs a Spiritual Director, part of my role is to support others in awakening to an ongoing encounter with God. Praying with art can be a creative way in which we engage the Spirit of God and discover deep pools of wonder, beauty and heartfelt revelation. Praying with art can take on many forms but for today I am referring primarily to visual images. Praying with art doesn't have to be complicated, you can begin by cutting out pictures that you are drawn to from magazines, going to your local bargain book store and picking up a book with visual images in it, or even downloading images from the internet to print. Once you have chosen an image that you feel led to work with you can then begin.
What you will need: Bible, a visual image (picture, drawing, painting), journal 1. Quiet yourself and bring your attention and intention to be present before the Lord. 2. For the next few moments take in the image...listen to it. Questions for reflection What is this image saying about my heart's desire and longing in this season of my life? What is this image saying about who God needs me to be and who I need not to be? What is one simple sentence which describes my heart's desire? What Bible scripture does this image bring to my awareness? ( Ask God why this particular scripture?) Journal your responses Try it out and share your experiences below!
